Every doctor, nurse, therapist, dentist, clinic and medical supplier in the U.S. with a National Provider Identifier, searchable by name or number.
7,540,866 individual providers and 1,990,237 organizations · no sign-up
Each provider page shows what CMS publishes in the national registry, laid out so you can read it at a glance.
A National Provider Identifier (NPI) is a unique 10-digit number that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services issues to every health care provider in the United States who bills insurance electronically. It stays with the provider for life, through moves, job changes and new licenses.
Type the provider's name (a person or an organization) or the 10-digit NPI in the box above. Add a state to narrow common names. Each result opens a page with the NPI, specialty, taxonomy codes, practice address, phone number and state license numbers.
No. The official registry is NPPES, run by CMS at npiregistry.cms.hhs.gov. This site republishes CMS's public NPPES data file in an easier format, with pages by specialty and city. Every provider page links to the official record.
Yes. There's no account, no fee and no limit on searches. NPI data is public by law.
We load the full NPPES file each month, a few days after CMS publishes it. The date at the bottom of each page shows the last update.
Type 1 NPIs belong to individual people: doctors, nurses, therapists, dentists, pharmacists and other clinicians. Type 2 NPIs belong to organizations: hospitals, group practices, clinics, pharmacies, labs and suppliers. More on the difference.
